What's Cooking at the Library?

Cathy ThomasOC Register columnist and author Cathy Thomas will be sharing some great summer entertaining ideas and demonstrating how to make some irrisistable main course salads along with tastings of salads, ginger cookies and organic summer fruit.  Thomas has filmed hundreds of "hot-to's" and has just published her second book in conjunction with Melissa's Produce,  "Melissa's Everyday Cooking with Organic Produce."
 
Register online now to make sure you have a seat. Course code 9400.207. This event is $20 per person and includes the demonstration and food samples. 
Chinatown: Photographic Exhibit

San Francisco ChinatownThe Newport Beach City Arts Commission presents "Chinatown: A Documentary Photographic Exhibition" by local artist Ting-Ting Lee.  The collection of photographs captures the daily life in Los Angeles' and San Francisco's Chinatowns, combining black and white photos taken by Lee for a 1978 MFA documentary photography project along with colorful photos of the two Chinatowns taken thirty years later  in 2008.  
 
Meet the artist at a reception in the Central Library Friends Room on Monday, July 19 from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

SRP image cat on seahorseThe 2010 Summer Reading Program solves the question of what to do with the kids this summer.  Every week there are special programs, including magic shows, puppetry, pirates, mimes and crafts, not to mention lots of books, movies and computer games.
 
This month, children will enjoy "Under the Sea Crafts" with lots of fun and creative ocean learning projects. Children ages 4-10 will also enjoy Facepainting, Lego Block Parties, and Pirate Adventures and Pirate Crafts this summer.
 
The Summer Reading Program is funded by generous donations from the Friends of the Library and the Crowley Family Foundation (Balboa Branch).
